In a release Monday by the Virginia High School League (VHSL) office in Charlottesville, the Executive Committee announced a possible calendar draft for sports and activities during the 2020-21 school year which would still allow for a postseason, as well as state championships.
The "Championships + 1" format allows for a truncated regular season, as well as region and state tournaments. At the state level, there will be no quarterfinal rounds, only semifinals and championships, meaning only region champions would advance to state tournament play. There is no official word yet on any details as to how individual regions would handle their postseason tournaments in sports such as baseball, softball, basketball, lacrosse and soccer.
It is important to note this is only a draft. This calendar is under consideration, but no voting has taken place. The draft is posted below.
