VHSL Alignment Appeals Update

The Virginia High School League (VHSL) announced results of its Appeals Committee session as part of the next four-year alignment of schools for 2023-2027. The headlines for Richmond-area schools are as follows:

--Glen Allen and Deep Run were denied in their petition to stay in Class 5, Region C rather than move up to Class 6, Region A.

--Matoaca was granted permission to move up from Class 4, Region B to Class 5, Region C.

--Maggie Walker GS was granted permission to stay in Class 3, Region B rather than move down to Class 2, Region A.

--Chesterfield County Schools were denied their request to move all ten of its high schools into one district, either the Dominion or Central. There were multiple protests filed by other jurisdictions to try to prevent the move.

--Caroline was denied their request to stay in Class 3, Region B instead of moving up to Class 4, Region B. The Cavaliers were approved for this move two years ago.

In news that would impact Richmond-area regions....

--Patrick Henry-Roanoke was denied their request to move to Class 5, Region C, down from Class 6, Region A.

--Mecklenburg County was approved in their request to move to Class 4, Region D from the assignment of Class 5, Region C.

--William Fleming, Albemarle and Franklin County were all approved to move from Class 5, Region D to Class 5, Region C.
