Latest Region 5B Basketball Standings

On this, the final night of the regular season, we get a glimpse of some of what is settled, and what's left to be determined in Class 5, Region B in high school basketball.

BOYS: Varina should be the top seed with Henrico just behind, followed by Meadowbrook and L.C. Bird. These seeds aren't official, but will be in 24 hours. Seeds 5 to 10 are still in flux, as current #9 Hermitage and current #11 Mills Godwin play tonight. It's not known whether a Godwin win could move them up the one position they need to make the playoffs, as the top ten teams in the seventeen-team region qualifies. #5 Glen Allen has Hanover tonight while #6 Douglas Freeman plays Thomas Jefferson.

STANDINGS:

1) Varina (17-3, 48.250)
2) Henrico (19-3, 48.0)
3) Meadowbrook (14-7, 43.048)
4) L.C. Bird (16-6, 41.273)
5) Glen Allen (13-8, 40.048)
6) Douglas Freeman (13-8, 39.857)
7) Atlee (13-9, 39.227)
8) Highland Springs (8-11, 38.211)
9) Hermitage (10-11, 38.0)
10) Deep Run (12-10, 37.636)
---
11) Mills Godwin (8-13, 36.333)
12) Prince George (10-12, 36.182)
13) Manchester (9-13, 34.182)

GIRLS: Highland Springs has locked up the top seed, while Matoaca is solidly at #2 with their impressive 20-2 record. Glen Allen, who ended 17-5, will be the third seed, followed by L.C. Bird likely at #4. Again, as on the boys side, seeds #5 to #10 could shuffle. A Mills Godwin win over Hermitage tonight may not be enough to catch the Skyhawks, but would clinch the fifth seed as #6 Midlothian is done at 14-8 and #7 Henrico has finished at 16-6. Eighth-seeded Meadowbrook plays Colonial Heights tonight trying to ensure a first round home game on Friday. Ninth-seeded Atlee is rooting for Colonial Heights so that maybe the Raiders and Monarchs switch positions, and the game would be at Atlee. Deep Run is done at 13-9 and at #10

STANDINGS:

1) Highland Springs (19-2, 49.333)
2) Matoaca (20-2, 47.682)
3) Glen Allen (17-5, 44.182)
4) L.C. Bird (15-7, 41.182)
5) Mills Godwin (14-7, 40.857)
6) Midlothian (14-8, 40.591)
7) Henrico (16-6, 40.5)
8) Meadowbrook (13-8, 38.857)
9) Atlee (15-7, 38.636)
10) Deep Run (13-9, 38.0)
---
11) Manchester (10-12, 35.5)
12) Prince George (8-13, 32.857)
13) Douglas Freeman (7-13, 31.7)

NOTE: The Region 5B Championship begins Friday as the #10 seed visits the #7 seed, and the #9 seed goes to the #8 seed in the first round. The top six teams earn byes to quarterfinal play on Tuesday night. The official, final standings and tournament brackets will be released on Wednesday.
