For the larger area schools who make it to state tournament play come June, some very good news arrived from the offices of the Virginia High School League Wednesday.

The VHSL confirms to RVA Sports Network that the Class 5 and Class 6 (formerly Group 5A and Group 6A) Spring Jubilee will be held next June at both Deep Run and Glen Allen High Schools, pending approval of the membership at their October 11 meeting in Midlothian, in a joint venture much like it has been the past several years at schools in Northern Virginia such as Robinson Secondary and Westfield High Schools.

The sports coming to the two Western Henrico schools are baseball, softball, soccer and lacrosse for both Class 5 and Class 6. Logistics on which games and sports will occur at which schools will be announced at a later date.

Also approved Wednesday by the Executive Committee is a move to Richmond for the Class 5 and Class 6 State Tennis Championships, pending membership approval. Location is unknown at this time as on the proposal carried in the Executive Committee's agenda, the location is simply stated as "Richmond".

The Siegel Center will continue to play host to Competition Cheer's biggest day in early November, the State Volleyball Championships in mid-November, and all of the State Basketball Championships in March.

The 2017-18 Girls Golf Open comes to Independence Golf Club next month, hosted by Monacan High School, while the Class 5 and Class 6 State Golf Championships will be at Magnolia Green, hosted by Cosby High School.

SwimRVA in Chesterfield, the Collegiate School Aquatic Center, will again host the Class 3 and Class 4 Swimming Championships come February and were approved to host again in February, 2019. For gymnastics fans, this February's State Championships will move to Heritage High School in Loudoun County.

As for football fans, no changes in championship sites as Hampton University handles Class 5 and Class 6, Zable Stadium at William & Mary holds Class 3 and Class 4, while Salem Stadium hosts Class 1 and Class 2, all on December 9th.
