VHSL Football Region Standings: Week 10

Two weeks left, games being moved around again, it's a wild stretch to the finish! Here are the latest official standings. Note that all regions bring their top eight except where noted:

REGION 6B (Top 7 In, #1 Seed with bye in Round 1):

1) Colonial Forge (8-0): 34.750
2) Manchester (8-0): 34.000
3) Thomas Dale (6-2): 29.250
4) Cosby (4-4): 25.750
5) Franklin County (4-4): 25.000
6) Clover Hill (4-5): 24.667
7) Riverbend (1-7): 21.500
---
8) James River (1-7): 20.125

NOTES: Manchester is stuck at #2 should Colonial Forge win out due to strength of schedule. Thomas Dale has virtually locked the #3 seed. The intrigue now is whether Cosby holds onto #4 and whether James River can find a win to threaten Riverbend.

6A TOP THREE: 1) Ocean Lakes (9-0, 33.556); 2) Oscar Smith (7-1, 31.000) 3) Woodside (7-2, 30.222)

************
REGION 5B:

1) Highland Springs (8-0): 30.500
2) Henrico (6-1): 29.714
3) L.C. Bird (6-2): 28.875
4) Atlee (6-2): 27.500
5) Glen Allen (6-2): 26.250
6) Douglas Freeman (7-2): 26.111
7) Varina (7-1): 25.500
8) Deep Run (4-3): 23.571
---
9) Prince George (4-4): 22.125
10) Mills Godwin (4-4): 21.625
11) Matoaca (2-6): 20.875

NOTES: The Springers in the drivers seat for top seed with two more wins, Varina jumps back into the race for a home game at the fourth seed with a win against Atlee this week on our Game of The Week. Deep Run needs a win against Glen Allen to solidify the #8 seed, but they won't clinch it yet. Mills Godwin needs a win over Douglas Freeman to jump back into the race, but won't be out if they don't, especially if Glen Allen beats Deep Run. Prince George has a late-surging Matoaca this week, that won't be easy.

5A TOP THREE: 1) Indian River (8-0, 31.250); 2) Maury (8-1, 29.667); 3) Salem (6-2, 28.500)

REGION 4B:

1) Monacan (7-1): 29.750
2T) Dinwiddie (8-0): 29.500
2T) Louisa (8-0): 29.500
2T) Eastern View (8-0): 29.500
5) Midlothian (5-3): 26.500
6) Courtland (6-2): 25.000
7) Huguenot (4-4): 22.875
8) Powhatan (4-3): 21.714
---
9) Chancellor (4-5): 20.889
10) Hanover (2-6): 20.250
11) Patrick Henry (2-5): 19.000

NOTES: Wow! A one-loss Monacan team has the strength of schedule to significantly threaten to disrupt the top of the region. They play a five win Midlothian team Thursday, while Dinwiddie has a six-win Hopewell, Louisa plays winless Charlottesville, and Eastern View's strength of schedule is down overall because of playing in the Battlefield District. It will go down to the wire should Monacan and Dinwiddie both win Thursday. Monacan finishes with 4-4 Huguenot, Dinwiddie with 2-5 Colonial Heights. Chancellor finishes their season Thursday with Spotsylvania, and a win will go a long way in their quest to catch Powhatan, who face 4-4 Albemarle Thursday.

4A TOP THREE: 1) Lafayette (7-0, 30.0); 2) Lake Taylor (7-1, 29.625); 3T) Deep Creek and Heritage (5-3, 24.250)

REGION 3A:

1) Phoebus (6-1): 28.714
2) Hopewell (6-1): 27.143
3) Booker T. Washington (6-3): 24.111
4) York (6-2): 23.250
5) I.C. Norcom (5-4): 23.222
6) Park View-South Hill (6-2): 22.625
7) Petersburg (5-3): 22.000
8) New Kent (5-3): 20.625
---
9T) Tabb (3-5): 20.125
       Lakeland (2-6): 20.125
11) Colonial Heights (2-5): 18.000

NOTES: Hopewell takes a hit in their hopes of grabbing the number one seed, but a win at Dinwiddie puts them right back in the hunt. The Blue Devils seem safe to lock at the least the second seed. Petersburg is fighting for a home game but must win and get help in order to move up two positions with just two games to go. New Kent is achingly close to the top eight, as strength of schedule hurts their hopes.

REGION 3B:

1) Culpeper County (5-3): 22.750
2) Spotsylvania (5-3): 21.875
3) Thomas Jefferson (4-4): 20.000
4) Brentsville District (4-5): 18.778
5) John Marshall (2-6): 17.500
6) James Monroe (2-6): 17.000
7) Skyline (2-6): 16.375
8) Armstrong (1-6): 16.000
---
9) William Monroe (2-6): 15.250
10) George Wythe (0-8): 15.000

NOTES: The Vikings look good for a home game in round one, though chances to move up are lessening. The rest of the region can be turned upside down with an upset or two.

**********
REGION 2A:

1) Amelia (7-0): 24.857
2) Poquoson (7-1): 24.375
3) Goochland (8-0): 24.000
4) King William (6-1): 21.333
5) Nottoway (5-3): 18.000
6) Greensville (4-4): 17.500
7) Brunswick (3-5): 17.000
8) Arcadia (5-4): 16.556
---
9) Nandua (3-6): 15.111
10) Bluestone (2-7): 14.222
11) Prince Edward (3-5): 14.000

NOTES: The Raiders and Bulldogs seem on a collision course to play for the top seed on November 2nd, while King William is very close to clinching a home game in the first round.

2B TOP THREE: 1) East Rockingham (8-0, 26.0); 2) Central-Woodstock (8-0, 24.0); 3) Luray (6-2, 21.625)

**********
In Region 1A, Essex is 6th, less than a tenth of a point behind #5 Northampton, but just over two points behind #4 West Point with two games to go. The playoffs are almost clinched for the Trojans, but a home game in the first round may be tough to earn.
