A Special Message From RVA Sports Network Founder Rob Witham

Season's Greetings to all!

First, I want to congratulate Varina and Rappahannock on capturing state championships on Saturday. What a dominant performance by the Blue Devils and what a run by the Raiders to erase a deficit for a blowout win.

And, hats off from me to the Springers of Highland Springs, who did not look like a team that would play in December back on the final night of the regular season, breaking things wide open when it counts. But having to face a team the likes of Maury, in their current run, is very difficult. But, let's see, five state championships and eight title game appearances over the past eleven seasons? Few can match that resume.

It was a fantastic, exciting high school football season, and we'll have a lot of intrigue in the offseason, including coaching changes (beginning at L.C. Bird), senior signings and, in the new age, what players move schools. In light of that, we'll keep a sharp eye on Virginia High School League plans to tighten already pretty tough transfer regulations. There will likely be more trips to the courtroom, rather than the football field, for the foreseeable future.

Now, my news. I now know what it is like to be placed on injured reserve and "miss the rest of the season".

Our plans were set Tuesday to be in Lynchburg Saturday for the Class 4 State Final. But around 5:30 Tuesday afternoon, my body canceled those plans.

Over the next 67 hours, I suffered two heart attacks, had three cardiac catherizations, and received four new stents to go with the one I received with my first heart attack back in 2013.

A check of my heart rhythm with my "Kardia" card showed there was a definite issue. Within the hour, I was at Memorial Regional Medical Center having the first procedure done. For anyone reading this who have either a heart history or has a family member or loved one with one, GET THIS MACHINE. Click that link. Best $89 you'll spend, with service at just $99/year. God used it to save my life. It can save yours, or someone you love, too. (I am not a spokesman for Kardia, just a very thankful customer!).

I arrived home Friday afternoon to begin a holiday season of rest, doctor appointments, and doing what I need to do to get back in the game.

So, you may not see me courtside for awhile, but I will be using my NFHS Network account, among other things, to keep us all updated on the ongoing high school basketball season, along with other sports.

My deepest thanks to God, my medical team at MRMC, my wife, son, daughter, niece and brother who journeyed from North Carolina to check on me, my incredible grandkids, plus the rest of my family for their support during the "recent unpleasantry". And, now that I've made this news public, a deep word of thanks to so many friends who have already checked in and pledged their prayers and support for the road to recovery.

In closing, listen to your body. It could be saying something that will save your life.

Sincerely,

Rob Witham  :)
