A former student-athlete, a current teacher, now the head football coach at James River.

James Riley III has been an assistant coach and defensive coordinator, and will now lead the Rapids in 2019 and beyond. Here's information on Riley provided by the school. Congratulations, Coach!

James Riley III, a Chesterfield native, graduated from James River High School in 2001. As a multi-sport athlete, he achieved great success in football and wrestling.   As a football player, he earned All-District, All-Region and All-Metro honors. Riley would continue his football career at Hampden-Sydney College, earning All-Conference and All-Region honors. As a wrestler, Riley was a two-time district champion, three-time region placer, and two-time state qualifier.

In 2005, Riley returned to his alma mater, James River High School, to begin his coaching career.  Riley has coached track, wrestling, and football. While having served many roles for various sports, as a football coach, defensive coordinator and assistant head coach have been his most recently held positions. Riley has two children: Jossyln, age 9 and James IV, age 4.
